Soccer: Stirling and Balcatta suffer NPL WA losses

STIRLING Lions and Balcatta have slipped down the National Premier Leagues WA ladder after losses on the weekend.

The Lions struggled against ladder-leaders Bayswater City, ultimately going down 3-0.

Coach Keegan Ashley said the goals they conceded were too easy.

“I thought we played reasonably well,” he said.

“Two soft goals, and I thought the third might have been offside but that’s the way it goes.”

Despite an early lead, Balcatta lost at home to Floreat Athena 5-1.

Balcatta’s Hayden Stevens scored the first goal of the match, coming from a penalty, but Floreat converted to make the scores level at half time.

The away team came out firing in the second half, kicking a goal shortly after play resumed and then three within 10 minutes to seal the deal.

Stirling will next face Armadale away, while Balcatta play second-bottom placed Sorrento.
