After its cancellation in April the World Surf League (WSL) decided to complete the event in Bali at the iconic surf break Uluwatu.

It was Cardoso, of Brazil, who jumped out of the blocks to take his maiden victory on the championship tour and get the monkey off his back.

Cardoso had been grinding out a high-performance repertoire for 12 years in the qualifying series and his patience and tenacity seems to have paid off.

He had a strong finish at Keramas in the Corona Bali Protected and took that form and confidence to Uluwatu for the win.

Johanne Defay from Reunion Island fought hard to take the win in the women’s Uluwatu Championship Tour.

Defay had a disappointing result at Keramas but the regular footer surfed impeccably on the crisp clean lefts at Uluwatu.

Back in WA, the State Government has introduced the much-anticipated rebate on the Ocean Guardian Shark Shield.
