The Surf Boardroom: excitement builds for Margaret River Pro

Neil AtkinsonStirling Times

ONCE again the Gold Coast turned it on for the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro in Queensland this month.

Snapper Rocks produced excellent waves for the first four days of the competition, with the finals held at Kirra Point.

Julian Wilson from Coolum Beach in Queensland held off a late charge by fellow Australian Adrian (Ace) Buchan to win the men’s final while American surfer Lakey Peterson took out the women’s.

Margaret River, The Box and North Point are all possible locations for this year’s Margaret River Pro.

Traditionally, Margaret River’s main break has been the venue for some epic battles but if conditions are more suited to The Box or North Point organisers have the luxury of moving the event if needed.

John John Florence, Kelly Slater, Gabriel Medina, Tyler Wright, Stephanie Gilmore and newly named World Surf League (WSL) rookie of the year Bronte Macaulay will be just some of the talent competing.

Make the most of this great event and head down to the wine rich region of the South West.

The Margaret River Pro will run from April 11 to 22.
