TRIGG and Sorrento surf lifesavers will take on the best in the world at the Life Saving World Championships.

Jake Smith, from Trigg Island Surf Life Saving Club and Royal Life Saving Society WA, and Sorrento surf club’s Jackson Symonds have been selected in the 12-person Australian team to compete in Adelaide in December.

They are the only two West Australians selected in the team, which includes 2018 Ironman Series Champion Matt Bevilacqua and 2017 champion Harriet Brown.

Smith will be making his world championships debut as he competes in the pool rescue category, while four-time championships gold medallist Symonds will hit the sand for the beach sprints.

Coach Kurt Wilson said he looked forward to working with the team in the lead-up to the competition.

“It has been a been a very tough selection process with such depth and talent across the squad, which is a good problem to have,” he said.

The team will compete in Japan and Germany in the next few months and participate in two team camps before the championship start on December 2.
