Wembley Downs Tennis Club takes out annual Stirling Tennis Tournament

WEMBLEY Downs Tennis Club took home the trophy at the annual Stirling Tennis Tournament this month.

The club won the event with 298 points, their first win since 2003.

Team captain Susanna Monaco said it was a great win for the team.

“It was wonderful to see how well the younger talented players combined with our club veterans,” she said.

The May 1 event attracted 90 players from six tennis clubs in the City of Stirling: Alexander Park, Mt Lawley, Nollamara, North Beach, Scarborough and Wembley Downs.

Nollamara Tennis Club was second and North Beach Tennis Club finished third.

The Handicap Trophy was awarded to the Nollamara Tennis Club which returned to the tournament after a five-year absence.

Club President John Pritchard said the tournament began in 1965.
