Charles said she enjoyed meeting new people and hearing different stories from different cultures.

“We were lucky enough to hear from the Imam about different aspects of Islamic culture, particularly how it relates to women,” she said.

“We also shared a meal as a group and finished the experience with a prayer.”

Charles said she and Beveridge were welcomed by the Mirrabooka locals.

“I think a day of celebration and recognition like Harmony Day is certainly appreciated in such a culturally diverse community,” she said.

“I really enjoy how so many different and diverse cultures come together to celebrate their respective ways of life.

“I also think it’s a fantastic opportunity to acknowledge the multiculturalism here in Perth and how lucky we are to be surrounded by it.”
