$2m refuge under way

Joel KellyThe Advocate

Construction of a $2 million refuge for women and children escaping domestic violence started in Ellenbrook last Wednesday, as politicians turned the first sod at the site to mark the occasion.

The refuge will have five independent units of various sizes in a secure location. It will also include support and outreach services for the wider community.

Child Protection Minister Helen Morton said her department would manage the refuge's operations, but a service provider would be sought to run the facility.

"The State Government made an election commitment to build two new refuges in the metropolitan area," she said.
