AAPThe Advocate

A MAN armed with an axe has allegedly threatened an Uber driver and stolen his car in Perth’s north.

The Uber driver was parked in Ellenbrook when the axe-wielding suspect allegedly approached his car about 9pm on Friday and told him to get out.

Police say the driver exited the car, fearing for his safety, before the man held the axe against the victim, telling him to leave.

The suspect allegedly drove off in the Toyota Camry and the victim called police.

Officers spotted the stolen car in Beechboro, some 15km south of Ellenbrook, at about 10.20pm and a pursuit began.

The vehicle was stopped a short time later and the man was arrested.

An axe was found in the car and a large knife was found in the man’s clothes, police allege.

The Mirrabooka man, 26, was charged with aggravated armed robbery, failure to stop, reckless driving and no authority to drive.

He was refused bail and is due to face Perth Magistrates Court on Saturday.
