SOME Western Australian students will be celebrating after their Year 12 final exam results were released a day early.

The Tertiary Institutions Service Centre released the Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank at 5pm Monday.

Within 15 minutes more than 2000 students had logged on to the website to access their results.

The scores form the most direct way of entrance to most undergraduate university courses in the country.

This year there were 12,170 school leavers who achieved an ATAR, compared to 12,247 in 2016.

Sixteen school leavers achieved the maximum ATAR of 99.95.

The median ATAR for WA was 78.6, down slightly from scores in the past three years.

Last year’s median ATAR result was 80.95.
