AVELEY student Joshua White has received a scholarship for his singing abilities in the Variety Youth Awards.
The 12-year-old won the Variety Youth of the Year award and the 2018 Katie O’Donnell Young Achiever of the Year Award for his talent and dedication to singing.
Joshua is a member of the WA Young Voices Choir and has been involved in local productions, as well as a role in the Children’s Chorus in Tosca with the WA Opera Company.
He said winning the award was a surprise.
“The Variety Youth of the Year award was a big surprise as we didn’t know about it until the scholarship presentation,” he said.
“I felt very excited and grateful to win the award and scholarship.”
Joshua has been singing his whole life, but has been singing in choirs and groups for the past five years.
“When I sing, it makes me happy. I like to give my best every time I perform to make the audience feel happy,” he said.
“I feel like the stage is my home and I always feel really excited when I perform. I hope the audience can forget about their day and enjoy the beautiful music.”
He said the scholarship would enable him to continue to sing with the WA Young Voice Choir and pay for his vocal lessons.
“In the future, I would really like to study classical music, perform again with the WA Opera and maybe study music therapy, so I can help people by using music,” he said.
