Avon Descent art to be created during festival at Lilac Hill

Lisa ThomasThe Advocate

AVON Descent enthusiasts will be able to watch the white water race while creating art inspired by the event.

Mundaring Arts Centre is running a hands on art workshop as part of the Lilac Hill Avon Descent Festival this Sunday, where residents can join local artist Si Hummerston in creating a 3D zodiac boat out of cane to celebrate the Avon Descent.

He said people would come together to build a life size boat made from cane, which would later be displayed by Mundaring Arts Centre as a piece of art.

“I’ll run through the aim of the project and each of the participants will create smaller parts of the boat from cane, which will eventually be tied together to create the main structure,” he said.

“It’s a great project to work on and something that the community can create to be a lasting piece of art.”

The free workshop will run from 10am to 3pm on Sunday, August 5, at the Mundaring Arts Centre tent at Lilac Hill in Guildford.
