Lauren PilatThe Advocate

GIANT cards and blue balloons will be gifted to Bella Petersen’s family this Friday by friends and classmates during a memorial service at Ellenbrook Secondary College (ESC).

The private memorial to remember the 15-year-old, her mother Michelle and brother Rua will now be held at the ESC gymnasium after friends of the teenager gained support from the college to hold the tribute.

“Now that we have the support of our school plans have changed slightly,” a post on Facebook read.

Originally a balloon release was planned during the memorial but has since been cancelled following negative comments on social media about the impact they have on animals and the environment.

Mourners have been encouraged to bring white and blue, Bella’s favourite colour, balloons that will instead be gifted to her family to represent the love and support for them within the community.

“We still encourage everyone to bring a baby/light blue or white balloon as blue was Bella’s favourite colour,” the Facebook post read.

“But unfortunately due to environmental purposes we are unable to release the balloons but we have decided to give them as a gift to the Petersen family.

“We will also be having giant cards for anyone who would like to write something about what they love or miss about Bella or even a memory shared.”

Friends of Bella thanked the community for the love and support from the community during this tragic time.
