The answer came by way of Auscon Metals, the sponsor of local Bullsbrook racer Broderick Williams, who offered $10,000 to the Shire of Chittering if the rally was held at Maryville Downs Estate.
Broderick Williams (23) has been a regular competitor in the Competition Modern category, driving his 1998 Nissan 180 SX, since 2011.
His father, Paul Williams, also became involved as part of the support crew for his son ” he even gets his hands dirty helping out with the spanners when required.
This year, Paul extended his involvement in WA’s premier rally event by becoming a sponsor through his Armadale-based scrap metal business.
Sport sponsorship is not new for Auscon but this is the company’s first foray into motorsport.
‘Motorsport is really Broderick’s thing,’ Mr Williams said.
‘I got involved through him, I even tried co-driving but that did not last very long.
‘It takes a special person to sit in the passenger seat.
‘The sponsorship is a way of helping him as well as other young people.’
