Minister for Environment Albert Jacob proposed to allow 19.8ha of pine plantation to be cleared to make way for City of Swan’s plan to widen Gnangara Road.
The Forest Products Commission will undertake salvage of the timber.
The City applied for access to the State forest land in January, 2013, which then required approval by various Government departments before being introduced to Parliament.
At last Tuesday’s Parliamentary session, Labor transport spokesman Ken Travers introduced a 342 signature petition to the Upper House seeking a firm commitment and timetable from Government for the upgrade.
The petition also requested that the Government ‘expedite all decisions and processes that still remain required to enable work to commence’.
Once the Parliamentary process is complete, including the approval being gazetted, the City can start work on the upgrade.
