Building site thefts rife: Police

Increased patrols in the area have seen a significant reduction in reported thefts but police say the issue is still rife and more needs to be done.

Items stolen ranged from water meters and tools to expensive appliances like ovens and hot water systems.

Midland Police Senior Sergeant Craig Davis said police noticed many of the thefts showed no signs of forced entry.

"A lot of people have master keys for these houses so industry also needs to keep an eye on who is using the keys," he said.

Night patrols will continue but police are urging community and construction workers to be vigilant.
