This annual event has become a permanent fixture on the schools calendar, with support from their P&C, principal, administration staff, teachers, students and parents.

Students dressed up in Starlight’s favourite colour purple for a gold coin donation, and at recess students paraded their purple fashions, with prizes for the best dressed in each year.

Other fundraising activities held at lunchtime included a My Block Rules competition, where parents and teachers got to show off their culinary expertise by baking or making something yummy to sell at lunchtime.

On the oval, students had the opportunity to wet a teacher with water-filled sponges.

Over the past four years, the school has raised about $7300, although that was expected to rise with this week’s monster raffle.

Principal Dean Goldspink said the day was a great success and showed a sense of respect and empathy. It was “humbling to see children raising money for others with such greater needs than themselves”, he said.
