A CHITTERING winery has taken out top honours at the 30th annual 2018 Singapore Airlines Swan Valley Wine Show.

Stringybark Winery won the Singapore Airlines Premium Trophy for Best Table Wine on Show on Friday night for its 2018 Verdelho.

The winery is one of the oldest in the Chittering Valley and produces a limited quantity of hand-picked Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Verdelho grapes each year.

The winery also won the award for the Best Verdelho and Best 2018 Dry White Wine on Show categories.

Owners Bruce and Mary Cussen, who took over the boutique winery over 20 years ago, said it was a great promotion for the Chittering region.

“Chittering used to have a lot more wineries but there are a lot less around these days,” Mr Cussen said.

“This award is a shot in the arm for the whole region and reinforces the quality of the wine being produced here.

“The fact that 20 gold medals were given out at this year’s show is an example of the quality of wine that is being produced across the Swan Valley and greater Perth region.”

Talijancich Wines was another big winner of the show, taking out Best Small Producer, Best Fortified Wine on Show and The West Australian Media Award for most successful producer and the City of Swan award, while Sittella took home Best Sparkling, Best White Wine or Blend, Best Red Wine or Blend and Best Swan Valley Red Table Wine.

The Alan Dinneen Memorial Trophy, named after the late wine judge, was awarded to John Kosoich wines, Oakover Winery took out Best Shiraz for their white label shiraz and Houghton Winery took our Best Non Greater Perth Zone Wine.
