As part of the joint initiative, parking officers will issue coffee vouchers to people who have parked their cars in on-street bays and displayed a valid ticket.

The City rolled out on-street paid parking last month across Midland to improve and regulate parking in the CBD.

Swan Mayor Mick Wainwright said the initiative was also about promoting local business and the great coffee Midland had to offer.

“We are really looking forward to working alongside some of our local cafes to help promote Midland and its growing cafe culture,” he said.

“I can vouch for the fact that the coffee in Midland is some of the best I have tasted.”

Cafe di Mondo, Carpe Coffee, Me N U, The Boardroom, The Robot Bun, L’Artisan Cafe, Pho Midland, Crooked Spire and Ritz Cafe will all take part in the initiative.

Cr Mainwright said paid parking had received some negative feedback and he hoped this initiative would help.

“The aim of the initiative is to not only reward motorists who are doing the right thing, but to help drive more customers to local businesses as well as encourage repeat business and spread the message that Midland has great coffee and a lot to offer,” he said.

“We want motorists and potential customers to know that they have nothing to fear. Not only does the designated free parking period still apply, they now have the option to stay longer if they’d like.”
