City of Swan encourages residents to cut plastic use ahead of Plastic Free July

THE City of Swan is encouraging residents to reduce their plastic use in the lead-up to Plastic Free July.

The City will be holding workshops throughout June on how to reduce waste.

Mayor Mick Wainwright said the workshops aimed to raise awareness about the amount of plastic people used and offer sustainable alternatives.

“Australians send one million tonnes of plastic to landfill each year and a single plastic bottle can take up to 450 years to break down,” he said.

“This is why it’s so important for us to start learning how to cut down the plastic we use every day.”

The workshops will include insights from presenter Lindsay Miles, who has been living plastic-free since 2012.

The Plastic Free July challenge encourages participants to refuse single-use plastic during July.

Places for the workshops are limited, so bookings are essential.
