City of Swan firefighter badly burned in refuelling accident

AN experienced firefighter received burns to 35 per cent of his upper body after an incident during a controlled burn last Friday.

The East Swan Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade lieutenant spent five days in intensive care and is now in the burns ward at Fiona Stanley Hospital.

City of Swan reported the burns were the result of a refuelling accident.

Chief executive Mike Foley said emergency protocols were swiftly enacted following the incident.

“He received first aid from trained volunteers while waiting for the rescue helicopter in which he was airlifted to Fiona Stanley Hospital,” he said.

Mr Foley said members of the East Swan Brigade were offered counselling.

City of Swan is now working with WorkSafe to review the incident.
