THE City of Swan has received $3 million in funding towards building a bridge over the Ellen Brook thanks to the Coalition’s Building Better Regions Fund.

The $6.1 million project, which is due to begin in October, will link Upper Swan and Bullsbrook to Ellenbrook and cut transport times.

Swan Mayor Mick Wainwright said the project was a priority for the City.

“A bridge over the Ellen Brook will not only provide an essential link for expanding nearby residential areas such as Upper Swan and Ellenbrook but help to develop employment areas north towards Bullsbrook as well,” he said.

“This project has been one of the City’s top priorities, so we are very pleased with today’s funding announcement and we would like to thank Senator Nash for the Government’s funding commitment and our local members for the support.”

Ellenbrook ward Councillor Cate McCullough said the bridge would make a huge difference to the community.

“It will provide the community with better access to surrounding roads and suburbs, improved travel times and help to reduce congestion in the area as well as create an alternate access point during emergency situations such as bushfires,” she said.

“The economic benefits of the bridge, primarily driven by travel time savings, are independently estimate at $45 million over a 30-year period.”
