City of Swan urges JDAP to refuse West Swan tavern

Lisa ThomasThe Advocate

THE City of Swan will make a recommendation to the Metro East Development Assessment Panel this month to refuse an application to build a tavern on West Swan Road in West Swan.

Councillor Charlie Zannino put forward a motion at last week’s council meeting that the application be refused because it was inconsistent with zoning and the objectives of the Swan Valley Planning Act 1995.

He said the proposed tavern did not entail the protection of viticulture and was not compatible with the rural character of the local area.

The motion endorsed the Swan Valley Planning Committee recommendation that the application be refused.

The application received 59 submissions during a public comment period, with 57 of those objecting to the proposal on the grounds that it was inconsistent with the Swan Valley Planning Act as well as traffic issues, noise and anti-social behaviour.
