One of six leap year babies born at St John of God Midland Hospital on February 29, Spencer arrived 17 days earlier than expected.

Mr Cangy said his and wife Megan’s son weighed 3.2kg and was 47cm long when he was born about 1.35pm last Monday, but had been due on March 17.

“We were not expecting February 29 at all – of all the dates that we could pick, the 29th was not one of them,” he said.

“We are just really happy and very excited – it’s one addition to our beautiful family.

“He is doing wonderfully – a very quiet baby; very settled.”

With Ruby’s birthday on March 2 and his on March 14, Mr Cangy said this month was busy for birthdays in the family, but they would add Spencer’s celebrations to the mix in future.
