The exhibition, Willandra, is the first exhibition for Hollingsworth despite the fact she has been painting on and off for more than 30 years.

The artist has around 42 pieces of work on display and for sale, which all have their own narrative.

Hollingsworth said that there was no theme to the exhibition and it was a collection of works she had created over the past three years.

“The work is very surreal. When I start a painting, the painting always changes throughout the process,” she said. “I always have a plan in my mind, but it always changes and I have no idea what it will become.”

Hollingsworth studied art at Tafe in her 40s, before taking a break and returning to her hobby three years ago.

Her son and daughter-in-law encouraged her to hold an exhibition.

“For people to love my work enough to buy them is everything,” she said.

Ellenbrook Arts executive director Matt Sivyer said the exhibition had been very successful in its first week, with nine paintings sold.

“It’s the most sales we’ve had from one exhibition in a while and the exhibition isn’t over yet,” he said. “The work is beautiful and is a must-see.”

The Willandra exhibition will run until July 17.

The Ellenbrook Art Gallery is open from 10am to 2pm Monday to Friday and 1pm to 5pm Saturday and Sunday.
