Ellenbrook: Girls Without Limits compete in Pink Triathlon to raise funds for Breast Cancer Foundation

Lisa ThomasThe Advocate

A GROUP of young women from around Ellenbrook competed in the Pink Triathlon last week to raise money for the Breast Cancer Foundation.

The women were from Girls Without Limits, a WA-based not-for-profit helping to promote positive mindsets and empower young women.

It is just one of several events planned for the group to take part in as a way to create resilience and empower each other, mentally and physically.

Caroline Thompson from Girls Without Limits said the women took part in the event to give back and gain physical confidence.

“It was such a positive experience for the girls,” she said.

“I could see the positive impact it was having on their self esteem and confidence.

“The smile on their face when they finished and they realised what they had just achieved was priceless.”

She said participating in sport was a way to reduce anxiety and depression and increase the feeling of empowerment.

“We saw the Pink Triathlon as an opportunity to support the Breast Cancer Foundation whilst also improving the physical and emotional wellbeing of young girls,” she said.

“While many of the girls were primarily participating to achieve a personal goal some of our girls are also participating in memory of family members who have been affected by breast cancer.”
