Ellenbrook line on hold

Staff ReporterThe Advocate

Mr Barnett told a media conference before the official launch of the Liberals’ election campaign that a line to Ellenbrook was a second-term project.

During a live debate on ABC television on Tuesday night, he re-iterated the Liberals had always planned for it to be a |second-term project in 2015.

But he later conceded ‘we are not in this election campaign committing to a rail line to Ellenbrook.’

‘It’s not the most important rail project,’ Mr Barnett said. ‘In due course, it will be built, but not in this next term.’

Opposition leader Mark McGowan said Mr Barnett had again broken his promise to the people of Ellenbrook.

He said Mr Barnett initially vowed to build the line in the 2008 election campaign, then again promised to build it during the government’s second term.

‘There are so many broken promises, it’s hard to remember them all,’ Mr McGowan said.
