Five of the eight recipients were from Ellenbrook and The Vines, with the overall winner award presented to Hillarys woman Margaret Wendt.

Swan Mayor Mick Wainwright presented the award for most outstanding work by a City of Swan resident.

“Art adds colour and life to our communities, has the ability to start conversations, encourages thought and most importantly, creates a sense of place and community,” he said.

“One hundred and twelve entrants competed for awards in seven categories and I was particularly pleased to see so many youth entrants. Three of these won awards, which is a testament to the talent of the young people in our community.”

Ellenbrook Arts executive director Carol Harris said that the committee worked hard to support the local arts community.

“Our aim is to highlight the amazing talent that exists within our region and to increase the awareness of Ellenbrook, the Swan Valley and the City of Swan as a centre of artistic talent,” she said.

“We invite everyone to come down to the gallery to view the works and to cast their vote in the People’s Choice Award.”

The exhibition runs until October 9 at The Gallery, 34 Main Street in Ellenbrook.

Votes can be cast until the final day of the exhibition.
