Ellenbrook: police warn residents to secure belongings following string of thefts

POLICE have warned residents to ensure their belongings are secured, following several reports of property theft in the Ellenbrook area.

A Malvern Springs resident said on a community Facebook page that her husband’s spotlights were stolen off his work ute on Monday night from their Hosnie Drive home.

Another nearby resident said her partner’s roof racks were taken off his ute last Friday.

Ellenbrook Police posted an image on Twitter of a stolen work trailer with its contents inside a fortnight ago.

Senior Sergeant Wal Brierley said tool theft was usually opportunistic.

“This is a common offence,” he said.

“It happens when tradies are on site or at home and leave their vehicles open.”

Sgt Brierley said ensuring all property was locked up when unsupervised would minimise the theft.

Adding a toolbox alarm and tracking device, as well as engraving tools, was also suggested.
