EIGHT extra closed circuit television cameras installed in the Ellenbrook town centre recently are now operational.
Pearce MHR Christian Porter said the cameras would help put a halt to crime in the suburb.
“The investment in security infrastructure like these CCTV cameras is shown to be an effective crime prevention measure that provides significant deterrence to anti-social behaviour,” he said.
“The cameras increase fear of detection and apprehension on the part of an offender.
“Our community has a right to feel safe and secure, and the installation of these CCTV cameras is one way to achieve it.”
Mr Porter said the Federal Government committed $250,000 towards the cameras under the Safer Streets Program.
“I would also like to recognise the City of Swan for the work they have done to ensure these CCTV cameras were installed to provide a safer physical environment for members of the public.” Christian Porter” Federal Member for Pearce Christian Porter with a CCTV camera.
