GenesisCare invites participants for cholesterol clinical trial

Staff WriterThe Advocate

HEALTH care provider GenesisCare is enrolling patients for a clinical trial testing a treatment for high cholesterol.

“We are currently looking for patients to take part in this clinical trial testing a new class of cholesterol lowering medication at our two research sites – Joondalup and Murdoch,” Dr Peter Purnell said.

“The results of this trial could be life changing for patients who have high cholesterol, are at high risk for heart attack and stroke, and who cannot tolerate existing cholesterol lowering medications.

“Specifically, this study will determine if the risk of heart attack and stroke can be reduced in patients using the new, investigational medication.”

The study will include more than 12,000 people aged 18 or older worldwide who have cardiovascular or heart disease, or who are at high risk for cardiovascular disease.

Eligible participants are those who cannot tolerate taking cholesterol-lowering medications called statin medications and meet additional study criteria.

The research sites are located in Shenton House, 57 Shenton Avenue, Joondalup and Wexford Medical Centre, 3 Barry Marshall Parade, Murdoch.
