GERMAN supermarket giant Aldi has signalled its intention to open a new store in Ellenbrook.
The international company, which has more than 7000 stores across three continents, revealed last week it planned to spend about $400 million to roll out 70 stores in WA over the next five years.
Construction of supermarkets in Ellenbrook, Midland and Mundaring have been given a high priority by the company.
A plan to build a $5 million supermarket in Hartung Street, next to Mundaring Medical Centre, has been in the pipeline since 2006.
The Metro East Joint Development Assessment Panel approved a development application for the project on July 23, on the condition that the building is constructed within two years.
The Midland and Ellenbrook stores ” at locations yet to be named by the company ” are expected to be completed in 2016.
Other confirmed store sites include Innaloo, Cannington, Southern River, Halls Head, Kwinana, Rockingham, Australind, South Lake and Camillo.
