Gran Fondo future on City of Swan agenda

Montana ArdonThe Advocate

Mayor Mick Wainwright said the City considered an application for the Father’s Day cycling event at a council meeting on July 6 but deferred a decision.

“Council was aware of issues with the Gran Fondo qualifying trials which were held in March and wanted to ensure that if we give approval for the event planned for September that we do not have the same problems arise,” he said.

“We requested additional detail on the traffic management plan and will consider all new information as well as what was presented to councillors last week at the special meeting.”

The international event held qualifiers in Perth on Sunday March 13, which caused traffic disruptions from the start line in the city centre out to the finish line in Perth’s east.
