Hard-working Swan couple in million-dollar Lotto win

Justin BianchiniThe Advocate

A MARRIED couple from the City of Swan whose two small businesses keep them working long hours have won nearly $1 million in Saturday’s Lotto draw.

The hard-working pair, who picked up $993,091, said they had not been on a holiday together for decades, unable to afford both being away from their businesses.

“After we pay off some debt and share some money with family, we may be able to sneak away for a weekend somewhere in Australia,” they said.

The wife said she’d had some small Lotto wins in the past but had always had her fingers crossed for a big prize.

“You have to have hope or what’s the point in playing,” she said.

They were alerted to check their ticket when a friend said there was a Lotto winner in the area.

“I had nothing else in my wallet but the Lotto ticket,” said the husband.

“When my friends took it to check the numbers and told me it was the winner, I thought it was just another joke.

“It only now seems a reality sitting here in the Winners Room.”

Despite the thrill of the win, the couple, who work 15 hours a day six days a week, said it would not change who they were.

“It’s a nice feeling, but we are the same people whether we have $1 or $100 in our wallets,” the husband said.

The winning ticket was bought at The Lucky Charm News Noranda.
