The centre is designed to collocate all current primary health care services ” both private and public ” and will be constructed on Great Northern Highway near the aged care facility, Ferguson House.

Both existing Shire buildings are inappropriate for the town’s needs, especially considering the forecast that Bindoon will double its population over the next decade.

The health facility will feature five consulting rooms and two treatment rooms with a reception and waiting area.

Shire president Robert Hawes said health services in Bindoon were currently restricted by the lack of operational floor space.

‘Providers must compete for operating hours due to the lack of suitable consult rooms,’ he said.

‘This project will address this issue, and ensure an appropriate standard of health services are retained in the region. The timing and importance of this project cannot be under-estimated in light of the findings of the Coastal Wheatbelt and Moora Service Plan and the recent population forecasts released by WAPC that predict our population will more than double to 9600 over the next decade.’

Funding for the project was sourced from Regional Development Australia Fund, Country Local Government Fund, Southern Inland Health Initiative and the Shire.

The project is currently at the stage of calling for tenders and it is anticipated that the facility will open late next year.
