Man dead in Ellenbrook house fire

ELLENBROOK residents have taken to social media to express their condolences to the family of a man in his 50s who died in a house fire yesterday afternoon.

Police and fire crews were called to Loveday Street in the Malvern Springs division of Ellenbrook after reports of an explosion about 5.15pm.

Residents attempted to control the fire with garden hoses before Department of Fire and Emergency Services arrived.

DFES brought five appliances to bring the blaze under control, while Swan State Emergency Services also provided assistance.

But crews were unable to reach the wheelchair-bound man in time to save him.

Police say their inquiries are continuing today and a report from Police Arson Squad will be provided to the coroner.
