Mixing with the best

In an unusual event, the brewers from the country’s best small, medium and large beers gathered to create a limited edition lager for the Australian International Beer Awards next month.

All three brewers said they had something to learn from each other as the palates of Australian beer drinkers evolved.

CUB chief brewer Jaideep Chandrasekharan worked with Feral Brewing’s Brendan Varis many years ago and said the role of craft breweries was important.

‘We do a range of beers at Carlton, so the craft industry has been good in expanding tastes and expectations in Australia,’ he said.

‘Consumer palates are changing as people become more adventurous in what beers they are trying.

‘They want to know more about what goes in the beer too, so we are also trying to raise awareness of where products that go in the beer are coming from.’

The beer the trio brewed ” Land of Plenty ” is named to reflect the diversity of beer and ingredients in Australia.
