THE cultural significance of Midland was celebrated this week as Naidoc festivities returned to Midland Oval.

The event, sponsored by the City of Swan and Landgate, featured Welcome to Country and Raising of Flags ceremonies as well as art, food and entertainment from talented Aboriginal performers.

Midland Naidoc organising committee representative and Elder Di Ryder said the event was a favourite in the community.

“Gathering together to share food, stories, and song is such an important part of Noongar culture, and the Naidoc Week event is a great opportunity for us to share our culture with everyone,” Ms Ryder said.

“It was wonderful to see such a strong turnout at the event to create broader community connections that will continue throughout the year.”

Swan Mayor Mick Wainwright said the City congratulated all of Naidoc award nominees and winners for their contribution to the community.
