THE Gingin Aquatic Centre opened for the summer season with a splash on Saturday.

Pearce MHR Christian Porter and Nationals MLC Martin Aldridge cut the ribbon to open the new look centre with Shire of Gingin president David Roe.

The pool was re-tiled and had solar heating installed during the off-season.

The tiling was partly funded by the Department of Sport and Recreation and the solar heating part funded by the Stronger Communities Program and the Gingin Super Seals Swimming Club.

Mr Porter said the aquatic centre was an integral part of the Gingin community.

“I am thrilled that the coalition Government was able to provide $20,000 under the program to contribute to the design and installation of solar heating for the pool and learn-to-swim area,” he said.

“This will enable a longer pool season and allow the implementation of additional aquatic programmes, like baby classes, seniors classes and rehabilitation activities.”
