SHALOM House founder Peter Lyndon-James says it is a humbling experience to take out his category at the West Australian of the Year Awards overnight.
Mr Lyndon-James was nominated under the Community Award category for his work in setting up a residential rehabilitation facility in the Swan Valley to help men who find themselves trapped by addiction, particularly to methamphetamine.
Speaking to The Advocate prior to the awards, Mr Lyndon-James said being nominated for the West Australian of the Year Awards was a special moment.

READ NOW“When you grow up the way I did, you don’t think you would ever be nominated for something like this,” he said.
“As a child, I was one of the kids that other kids wouldn’t even pick for their football team, so being picked and nominated for the Western Australian of the Year awards is really quite special.”
Mr Lyndon-James said he hoped the recognition would help him continue his work.
“Each morning I wake up and try to be the best me that I can be,” he said.
“It is definitely a team effort that got us to where we are today.”
Fortescue Metals Group chair and philanthropist Andrew Forrest was named 2017 West Australian of the Year at the ceremony at Crown Towers.
