STAFF and residents of drug rehabilitation centre Shalom House will take part in next Sunday’s Run for a Reason.

Nearly 60 people will be running to raise funds for Manna Inc for its Breakfast in Schools program.

Team co-ordinator Josh Fowler said he was impressed with Manna Inc’s work.

“There are 20 schools benefiting from this amazing initiative,” he said.

“Most of the men at Shalom House undergoing rehabilitation have children and some have unfortunately been the ones to put their substance abuse before their kids.

“We want to rectify that, we want to give back and help those organisations doing awesome work in looking after the little ones.”

Manna chairwoman Heather Stewart-Johnson said the organisation was keen to expand the program.

“We believe we should do all we can to assist in keeping the kids’ self-esteem up and keep them warm and fed at school,” she said.

“We thank the Shalom House team for taking this opportunity to partner with us in making some real change and looking after the youngest and most vulnerable members of our society.”
