A NEW government primary school will be built in Brabham by 2020 under the Labor Government, to manage growth in the suburb.

West Swan MLA Rita Saffioti announced plans for the $15 million school today to help deal with the growing number of young families in the area.

Ms Saffioti said there was no government primary school in the suburb, with students having to travel to Ellenbrook for school.

She said housing forecasts for the suburb highlighted the need for a primary school, with over 2200 homes to be constructed by 2022.

“When door knocking and meeting Brabham residents, many have raised the need for a new school with me,” she said.

“Many young families are moving into the area and they are very keen to have a local school for their children.”

Ms Saffioti said land had been set aside for a school and local families wanted some certainty about its construction.

“The population growth of Brabham in recent years show that it needs its own primary school,” she said.
