SWAN Christian College raised more than $7000 last week to expand its Light Up Ahead School in Zambia.

The College put together a quiz night, which was attended by around 300 people, to raise money to build a new toilet block for the school.

College mission director Raymond Hockley said the atmosphere on the night was euphoric.

“A massive thank you to our extensive list of sponsors on the night,” he said.

More than 45 local businesses donated prizes and vouchers for a silent auction, which raised $3500.

Mr Hockley said the college built the school in 2008, but it had since grown and needed a new toilet block to cope with more students.

“In 2008 we researched the community of Kantolomba and realised that there were not enough schools for the great volume of local children, no police station, no free clean water and no health clinic,” he said.

“Knowing that education has the power to change lives motivated us to build a school for the people of Kantolomba.”
