SWAN Valley Anglican Community School student William Pepermans spent his weekend picking up rubbish after organising a street clean up last week.

The 11-year-old from The Vines invited his family, classmates and neighbours to clean up 2km of Hermitage Drive and surrounding roads after noticing how much rubbish there was in the area.

The group of volunteers spent two hours cleaning up the streets and collected 20 bags of rubbish.

William said he noticed on walks with his family that nearby streets were covered with rubbish and felt he needed to take action.

He urged people to use a bin and not dump rubbish.

“I thought it would be great to have a clean up and get the street looking spotless,” he said.

“I would encourage other kids my age to have a clean up. It looks great now and it is better for the environment and animals.

“I think I will do regular clean ups to make sure it stays clean.”
