Set to open in March, “The Hen” is in the final stages of internal fit-out and liquor licensing.

Father and daughter owners Hayley Saunders and Graham Bond are Swan Valley locals, while co-owner Justin Rogan is a converted Fremantle hospitality veteran.

They say the ethos behind the food and drink list will be to provide a showcase of the wines, beers and food from around the Swan Valley.

The building itself is a barn-style structure built from bluegum beams, recycled bricks from Dunsborough and timber weatherboard to reflect the Swan Valley’s rural setting.

The journey to work will involve a walk across the paddock for Ms Saunders, while Mr Rogan will continue to live in Fremantle.

“It’s a big change for me but I saw the potential in the Swan Valley and fell in love with the property,” he said.

“Our focus is on providing a venue for families.”

While no announcements have been made for a grand opening, Mr Rogan said he is planning for The Hen to host weekly live entertainment, along with bigger events throughout the year.

The pub will create 20 local jobs and intends to support local sports groups.
