Upper Swan clay pit plan knocked back by City

Lisa ThomasThe Advocate

SWAN City councillors have refused plans for a clay extraction pit in Upper Swan.

The Apple Street proposal raised concerns with residents over dust and noise that would be created by the site works if the plan was approved.

Cr Darryl Trease put forward a motion on Wednesday last week to refuse the application, based on the adverse impact it would have on the local amenity and that it was inconsistent with provisions in the City’s rural planning strategy.

Cr Trease said he believed nearby residents in Upper Swan would be impacted adversely and would have to deal with noise and dust.

Cr Kevin Bailey said the proposed site was too close to residents and on that basis should be refused by the council.

Cr Henderson also spoke against the motion.

The motion to refuse the plan was carried 9-4.
