WA Wheatbelt farmers hit by fire last month have had to contend with a big hailstorm today.

One farmer in the Walebing-Bindi Bindi area near Moora – which had some crop damage from a fire less than two weeks ago – said it was difficult to assess the extent of the damage from today’s “nasty” front. Though he had received a report of significant damage on a farm farther south in Calingiri.

“Judging by the weather radar we’ve copped the north end of the storm that came through,” he said.

“A couple of spot fires went up with the lightning but this time there has been the rain to put everything out.

“It will take time to assess how widespread the damage has been.”

He said there had been at least 15mm of rain on his farm.

The same area was devastated by hail before harvest last year.
