TODAY’S wet weather forced the cancellation of a controlled burn to protect one of Perth’s growing areas from future fires.

The Parks and Wildlife Service was set to burn 100ha in the Gnangara State Forest 2km west of the Ellenbrook Town Centre before rain intervened.

The service at the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions was able, however, to light controlled fires east of Yanchep and Two Rocks.

It hopes to carry out the Gnangara forest burn tomorrow and conducts the prescribed burns “for forest management and to manage bushfire risk and biodiversity”.
