White Balloon Day: The Vines business owners raising funds and awareness for Bravehearts

FOR the sixth year in a row, cake maker and wedding company director Alison Kemp will use her talent and passion to raise money for child protection organisation Bravehearts.

Celebrating its 20th annual White Balloon Day today during Child Protection Week, Ms Kemp will again do her part to support Australia’s biggest child protection challenge, working to reduce the 60,000 crimes that affect Australian children each year.

Owner of The Vines business Vinescakes, Ms Kemp has teamed up with other local wedding professionals to hold a quiz night at Mulberry on Swan in Caversham.

“Together with Perth’s leading group of wedding suppliers Lets Get Hitched, we will be raising money for Bravehearts,” she said.

“I will have small cakes on sale and a raffle too, with a good selection of prizes, as well as a photo booth and decorations which have been donated.”

Bravehearts founder Hetty Johnston said White Balloon Day encouraged Australians to play their role in creating child-safe communities.

“It is likely there is a child in everyone’s life, or the life of someone they know, who has been a victim of child sexual assault,” she said.

“White Balloon Day is about encouraging people from all corners of the community to step up for these kids, raising awareness and funds to enable the continued delivery of vital support and prevention programs, while giving kids the confidence to come forward and break the silence.

“Protecting kids is everyone’s business and by stepping up and taking the challenge, everyone can play a role.”

Participants who #takethechallenge will help to protect Aussie kids by hosting a White Balloon Day event, fundraising online or generating awareness via social media.

This year, the school, organisation and individual who raises the most funds will have the opportunity to have the ‘Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure’ delivered to a school of their choice.

Money raised throughout the campaign will go towards education and training programs as well as specialist support for kids and their families.

Funds raised in 2015 helped to educate around 106,000 kids with personal safety and support 3750 kids and their families with specialist counselling services.

“I cannot be more proud of Bravehearts, as well as its incredible array of supporters, all coming together to take on Australia’s biggest child protection challenge,” Ms Johnston said.

“I encourage all Australians to donate and participate, while helping to celebrate this significant 20-year milestone.”
