The recently crowned Young Australian Brewer of the Year was acknowledged for his work at the Feral Brewing Company at the Beer and Brewer Awards in Sydney.

The Swan Valley brewery also won Best Australian Beer for its Hop Hog.

Mr Irving (29) said he was honoured with the national recognition.

‘It is good for the company and I believe it is reward for the hard work we have done,’ he said.

The Viveash resident believed Hop Hog had garnered mainstream appeal due to ‘changing tastes among beer drinkers’.

‘Hop Hog is a step up from regular beers because it is more bitter and balanced,’ he said.

Mr Irving said he was passionate to make a mark on the industry.

‘At the end of my school days, I knew I wanted to be a brewer,’ he said.

‘My goal has always been to liven up beers because I was bored with the regular taste from mainstream beers.’
