Croquet growing in popularity

Robyn Cornish, a member of the Cambridge Croquet Club in Perth, organised for Brian Hadley, the club captain and an experienced strategist, to accompany her on a visit to Gingin and give tips on how to play the golf form of croquet.

Gingin croquet organiser Tracy Collard said everybody learnt quickly that the game was not all about getting the ball through the next hoop, but more about tactics and strategies.

‘While the players enjoyed morning tea, Brian answered our queries… as well as an introduction to basic strategies. It was general consensus that you had to be ruthless and thinking two shots ahead,’ she said.

Following this introduction, a group now regularly meets on a Tuesday evening to play, between 5pm and 7pm at $5 per person.
